Hartford has a very stable business atmosphere. The retail sector is broad based, with many of the shops owned by Hartford residents. The community is also the source of many manufactured products for both residential and industrial needs. There are about 60 different manufacturing businesses located in the city.
The Hartford Area Development Corporation (HADC) was established in 1977 to help businesses in the community. Its mission is to encourage the expansion of existing industry and commerce within the City of Hartford and to attract additional industrial, commercial and residential development. Outside of the help it gives to large businesses, the HADC also runs the Innovation Center, which is an “incubator” for smaller firms and helps them grow. To fulfill its mission, the HADC works with local, state and national agencies to promote the development of Hartford’s business environment.
