Education
Hartford prides itself on its commitment to achieve excellence in its educational system. This includes a focus on all aspects, from the curriculum, to the facilities, to the faculty. Public education is the responsibility of two different school systems. The School District of two different school systems. The School District of Hartford Joint No. 1 operates Lincoln and Rossman Elementary Schools and Central Middle School. The Hartford Union High School District operates the only senior high school in the city.
Lincoln and Rossman teach kindergarten through fifth grade and have a curriculum that focuses on the basics of language, mathematics and social studies as well as art, music, and physical education. Fifth graders are encouraged to participate in band or orchestra. The schools also offer programs for gifted students as well as for those students with special learning and educational needs. The school also offers a wide variety of extracurricular activities. There are many interscholastic and intramural sports, organizations and clubs for students to be involved in.
Hartford also has private and parochial schools for those who want a religious education for their children. Both have strong, religious based curriculum. For the children who are not old enough to attend school, Hartford has several child day care facilities and preschools.
High Education
For those students who wish to continue their education after high school, there are several opportunities within the immediate area. Moraine Park also has an instructional center at Hartford Union High School where high school students can take courses that give credits toward their technical college degrees.
The University of Wisconsin-Washington County is a UW-extension school located in West Bend. Students can begin their bachelor’s degrees at UWWC and after two years transfer to any school in the University of Wisconsin system. UWWC offers more than 250 majors in many areas including architecture and environmental design, business, computer science, fine and applied arts, health professions, and social sciences.
There are also three universities within reasonable driving distance of Hartford. The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and University of Wisconsin-Madison are four-year public universities offering a wide variety of advanced degrees.
