Nested in the rolling hills of Southeastern Wisconsin, Hartford offers several types of indoor and outdoor activities / attractions throughout the year, the trick is finding the activities / attractions and enjoying them. This section was created to help you throughout your search. Feel free to contact the chamber office for area maps, brochures, and other pointers. Annual Hartford Balloon Rally – A community-building tradition since 1999, the Hartford Balloon Rally is one of Wisconsin’s largest summer time balloon launches with 15 hot air balloons, local antique air display along with food and refreshments. To top off the day there will be a breath taking “evening balloon glow” followed by a spectacular fireworks show. Come join in on the fun, mark your calendars because this event is held the second Saturday in August every year.
Wisconsin Automotive Museum (www.wisconsinautomuseum.com) – Wisconsin’s largest Automotive Museum featuring Hartford Wisconsin built Kissel Cars and Wisconsin built Nash cars. More than 100 in total of all types and years. Also a 250 ton operating Stem Locomotive and Hugh Lionel Train Layout.
Schauer Arts & Activities Center (www.schauercenter.org) – This comprehensive arts and theatre complex houses a 571-seat theatre, an art gallery, and the Community School of the Arts. The theatre hosts a variety of musical and dramatic performances throughout the year. For a complete schedule of events visit their website.
Kettle Moraine State Forest – Pike Lake Unit (http://www.dnr.state.wi.us/ORG/land/parks/specific/pikelake) - The forest is named after the 446-acre, spring-fed kettle: Pike Lake. Powder Hill, a large glacial kame, provides the opportunity for a great hike and view. Visitors can enjoy camping, swimming, hiking, fishing, picnicking, and much more within the forest.
Holy Hill National Shrine of Mary (www.holyhill.com) - Over 400 acres of peace and beauty! A landmark of Wisconsin and listed on the National Register of Historic Locations. Pilgrims walk the half mile outdoor Way of the Cross with 14 groups of life-size sculptures representing the Passion of Jesus. Others pray at the Lourdes Grotto. Thousands of visitors climb the 178 steps to the top of the observation tower inside one of the Church spires for an unparalleled glimpse of the dramatic rural surroundings. There is a full weekend Mass schedule and daily religious services. Special seasonal events occur throughout the year, including a live Nativity, uplifting religious concerts, and a popular Arts & Crafts Fair. Gift Store is open daily and The Old Monastery Inn Cafeteria provides tasty meals and simple snacks. Enjoy the Sunday brunch throughout the year.
Chandelier Ballroom (www.chandelierballroom.com) – Built in the 1920's, this architectural masterpiece is the largest freestanding facility of its kind in the state of Wisconsin and has been painstakingly renovated to restore its original grandeur. The Chandelier Ballroom continues to delight thousands, offering the most elegant surroundings for receptions, conventions and private parties. Throughout the year the grand ballroom hosts numerous events from big band swing to rock 'n roll to classical to polka.
